Scaled worm, epipelagic 7-10-17-6671ed.jpg This is a larval scaled worm. Discovered on a Black water dive, off West Palm Beach, Florida. Our Black water dives are at night in the Gulf Stream Current a few miles offshore over depths of 500’, although we are diving to perhaps 40 feet. This creature is no bigger than the white moon on your fingernail. They spin endlessly in circles. The scales also known as elytra, are transparent at this stage of life and sparkle. Polynoidae is in the family of scaled Polychaete worms. Photographed with a 60 mm macro lens and a 10x diopter.ID was by Leslie Harris.
